Horseback riding |
|
Horses and Bulgaria are synonymous with each other. More than a thousand years ago, in 681 horsemen warriors, the Proto-Bulgarians, arrived in the lands of the Balkans and brought with them horseman skills never seen before in Europe. Ever since, until today horse-breeding and horseback riding have been a characteristic feature of the Bulgarian lifestyle and traditions.

...Come celebrate the wonders of nature on top of fine horses
This adventure trip offers to horse-riding lovers unforgettable days of riding along tiny paths, passing through remote picturesque villages and resting at charming riverside spots under century old trees. The unique experience of spending a week, riding and living in the open is completed at night when fellow riders share stories by the fire in the woods.
Day 1 Arrival at the horse-breeding farm in Nova Zagora. Rest. Tour around the farm and stables. Acquiantance with the horses.
Day 2 We set off from the base at Nova Zagora at 9.00 am with private car and drive for 25 km until we reach the starting point of our journey in the heart of the beautiful Central Balkn Range mountain. Today's trip consists of 2 stages; during the first one we ride for about 14 km and during the second - 12 km with a lunch break on the top of the Balkan Mountain at an ultitude of 1300m. We descend to the place where we spend the night at tents near a small river. Beautiful nature is all around us. When dawn falls we lit a fire and prepare dinner. If the weather is not suitable for doing that we spend the night in a comfortable country house, situated in a nearby village /2 km away/.
Day 3 We continue out trip passing through beautiful places. Lunch is in the open/ alternatively in the nearby small mountain town of Elena. Elena is a fascinating historical town and if the weather is bad we will have the opportunity to have lunch at a nice ancient-style restaurant. After lunch we head off to the village of Valchovci where we spend the night in a cosy guesthouse. The whole passage will have two stages, totalling to 25 km.
Day 4 After breakfast we continue with our journey to Arbanassi - a village, neighbouring the Old Capital of Bulgaria - Veliko Tyrnovo. The passage is about 15-17 km with lunch by lovely waterfalls. We reach Arbanassi after lunch, from where horses are taken by a truck and riders are given a lift to Arbanasi. We continue the riding around Arbanasi, where the Balkan championship of steeplechase takes place. Its excellent facilities provide for ideal galop opportunities and we take this chance to organize a fun 400-500 meter-long competition with a special prize for the winner. Later we enjoy a hearty dinner at a small local tavern, famous for its delicious specialties and welcoming atmosphere.
Day 4 We go back to village Valchovci a different route, stopping for lunch in the open. We head off to our camping site for the night, situated near dam Jovkovci, where, depending on the weather we can enjoy a refreshing swimfish or try out our fishing skills. Dinner is again prepared by the fire. The passage is about 25 km. Depending on the physical condition of the riders and the horses there is a possibility of choosing between a long a short track.
Day 5 After having breakfast we travel about 15-20km by car from the top of the Central Balkan Mountains to Nova Zagora. We arrive at 4.00pm and prepare ourselves for the most exciting "Good bye". A surprise dinner is prepared for us and we enjoy it alongside the interesting folklore dancing and singing show. The most courageous riders will be able to touch a real weapon "Kalashnikov" and even shoot 10 cartridges.
